THE SUITES at Wickham House

Dr Alan Headey
Clinical Psychologist (adult)

Dr Alan Headey is a Clinical Psychologist with over 17 years of experience supporting adults across both public and private mental health settings. He brings a down to earth, respectful, and genuinely collaborative presence to therapy, working with you rather than on you.

Whether you’re navigating psychological trauma, living with emotional distress or medical challenges, or facing a difficult phase in life, Alan provides a warm, non judgmental space where you can speak openly, feel heard, and begin to heal in a way that works for you.
How Alan Can Support You
Alan works with people experiencing a wide range of emotional and psychological concerns. He has a particular interest in:
-
Trauma and PTSD, including stress related disorders
-
Anxiety and depression
-
Coping with complex or chronic medical illness (e.g. Type 1 diabetes)
-
Spiritual or religious concerns, including shifts in belief or identity
-
Men’s mental health, especially for those who may be new to therapy or hesitant to reach out

Alan has supported individuals from diverse backgrounds across Queensland, Victoria, and Tasmania. While his background includes many years of work in hospital settings, including 13 years as a Senior Clinical Psychologist at Mater Health Services, his approach is anything but detached. People often describe him as easy to talk to, thoughtful, and genuinely committed to helping you feel more like yourself again.

Alan’s Approach to Therapy
Alan draws on a range of therapeutic frameworks that are effective in helping people recover safely from trauma and overwhelming experiences. These include:
-
Internal Family Systems (IFS): exploring different “parts” of yourself with compassion
-
Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR): a powerful, evidence based approach to trauma healing
-
Sensorimotor Psychotherapy: a somatic approach that acknowledges the body’s role in healing
-
Psychodynamic and trauma focused principles: helping you understand deeper patterns and the impact of past experiences
While trained in these methods, Alan uses them flexibly and collaboratively, tailoring therapy to you rather than fitting you to a model. His focus is on making therapy feel safe, meaningful, and illuminating.
What to Expect
Working with Alan means being met with respect, honesty, and genuine interest in your wellbeing. Whether you’re navigating recent challenges or working through long standing issues, he provides a grounded, supportive environment where you are invited to move at your own pace.

If you’re new to therapy, or have had mixed experiences in the past, you may find Alan’s relaxed and relatable style helps ease any uncertainty or pressure.

Due to demand for his thoughtful and reflective approach, there is an approximate three month wait for a first appointment. Our patient concierge team is available to assist with referral submission and to answer any questions you may have.
