Dr Alan Headey MAPS

Clinical Psychologist (adult)

Alan is an experienced clinical psychologist who works with people in a down to earth and collegial way.

Over the past 17 years he has worked in a range of settings, both public and private. He was previously a Senior Clinical Psychologist at Mater Health Services for 13 years. He has a special interest in helping people with psychological trauma (including PTSD/stress disorders), complex medical illnesses (e.g. type I diabetes) and issues related to spirituality or religion. Alan is also experienced at treating anxiety and depression. He has worked with a diverse range of people across Queensland, Victoria and Tasmania, but has a special interest in men’s health.

Alan's practice is informed by three therapeutic approaches: Internal Family Systems, Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) and somatic psychology. These therapies have an emphasis on helping people safely heal from overwhelming or traumatic experiences. That said, he holds these therapies lightly in mind and applies them differently with each person.

Alan has a Double Major in Psychology with Honours from UQ (2000) and a Doctorate in Psychology (Health) from the University of Melbourne (2006). He is an experienced clinical supervisor and a member of the EMDR Association of Australia.

Away from work, Alan enjoys hanging out with his family, bushwalking, reading and podcasts, playing sport and watching the mighty flying Hawks (well ‘once mighty’ I know!). He is happy to take enquires prior to starting therapy through reception.
